Inspiring My Japanese Friend To Train Aikido

I’ve been sharing a little about my Aikido class with friends since I started the club in 2022.

Recently, I had this message from a friend of mine from Japan who has started at an Aikido class since hearing me talk about it. She said:

“I never imagined I would be interested in Aikido. I still have no idea what I’m doing but I lose track of time, which I take as a sign to immerse myself more.

I really like the sensei and the senior member. I have an 11-year-old sensei (my sensei’s grandson) too. My sensei’s wife is also an advanced practitioner. They are fun, kind and gentle.”

Her teacher was a student of Noboyuki Watanabe Sensei who was a bit of a controversial character in the Aikido world for his “no touch” demonstrations.  He sadly passed away not too long ago.

I never really though I would inspire someone all the way over in Japan to start training but that is quite fun.

If you would like to try a class we are on tonight from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.  The venue is the Palace Of Art on Paisley Road West in Glasgow.
