Last weekend I attended a “retreat” entitled The Power Of Qi.
It was hosted by the Sun Kyeong centre in Glasgow and the main speaker was Master Oh, a South Korean master of Qi that had come over to be part of the event.
I continue to be interested in going to other classes and seminars to learn more and see if there is anything out there that may help to improve my own Aikido practise. I don’t do this very often, but if I see something of interest I will go.
This retreat was not about Martial Arts but I thought it could be useful. I was interested in learning what they thought of Ki/Qi and how they used it in their healing practise.
I ended up being confused in some ways by the experience and it left me with more questions. Master Oh was losing his voice by the end of the weekend which was no wonder. He was speaking for 90 minutes or more at a time. To be honest, I found it hard to take in everything he was saying and I starting zoning out, using the time to work on Aikido class plans for the future.
For me it is not helpful to say that Qi is “love light energy” as what exactly does that mean?
Perhaps we are just to accept that Qi/Ki is something that can not be fully understood and has to be experienced but if that is the case it would be best to admit that.
I asked a few questions during the retreat and was disappointed in feeling like he did not really want to answer the questions fully.
Overall it was an enjoyable experience with a good atmosphere and good people and I had a healing treatment that was enjoyable.
Of course, you will not enjoy all external seminars you go to but they are often worth it when you do have a good experience or make some good connections with others.
