In our class we offer the opportunity to train towards going for grading. As you complete each grading you will be allowed to wear a different belt to the club…ultimately leading to black belt and wearing the hakama.
Some people are not very interested in gradings and would prefer not to go through this process. Why would I suggest that you should go for grading?
Going for a grading is the best way to improve your level as you have a focus to your training. It allows you to study a small number of techniques over and over which helps you to improve very quickly.
Your grade will also allow others to know what level to practise with you if you choose to go to other clubs and in this sense it helps you get the most out of each practise. It also help to keep people safe as they will not be asked to do things beyond their level of ability.
It is also a bit of a confidence boost to know that you are improving and it is very motivating to know that you have conquered one challenge and you can see the next one ahead.
Gradings days are good fun with all of the clubs coming together. This makes it a bit nerve wracking but it is a good test of Ki. You will not be pushed forward to grading unless you are ready. It is a time to show off and enjoy yourself as much as you can.
