I have not visited many Aikido clubs outside of our organisation in Glasgow. That is not from a lack of interest or desire to, but it often has been difficult to arrange such events while travelling.
I was delighted to recently be invited to the Aikido Assoication Of Atlanta to attend one of their evening Adult classes.
I had posted on the major Aikido forum on Facebook that I was travelling and open to attending classes. One man that got back to me was Michael Goodman. I was enthusiastically welcome by him and he event gave me a gi and a belt to wear.
The class was taken by Luke Maranto Sensei has over 40 years of martial arts experience. The class was 90 minute long and he had us training for the whole time with very little time to stop and catch a breath. He focused on techniques from what we call 11th form (a 2 handed grab of the wrist from behind the back).
I got to train with almost everyone in the class and enjoyed it. I got a few good tips that I will continue to think about.
At the end they stopped for a photo with me and hung out for a while at the end for some conversation before my ride came to pick me up.
It was a warm and welcoming experience along with good training. If you are ever in the area I would recommend a visit.
