It’s not often we see Aikido in the press these days.
Today, it was good to see this new article published in the Guardian:
This was written by 68 year old Aikido student Morag Warrack from Surrey.
About her first Aikido expereince she said:
“I was terrified and thought all these blokes would be shocked by an old woman walking in,” she says. “The teacher encouraged me to stay and I realised they were all kind and curious about me being there. That was my first experience of learning aikido.”
She found Aikido after seeing it mentioned in books on mindfulness.
About the benefits of Aikido she said:
“Aikido was making me way more confident,” she says. “Since my reactions got quicker, my balance was better and my coordination improved. I had a real understanding of my own body and it became a metaphor for how to be in life; how to avoid attack without hurting the other person.”
Well worth reading the full article.
I met Morag last year at a seminar in Glasgow.
I remember practising Kokyu Dosa (an Aikido exercise) with her and she was good to practise with. I had no idea she was so new to Aikido.
